Zhejiang Chinese Medical University is located near the south bank of Qiantang River, in the city of Hangzhou, a world-famous tourist resort known for its beautiful scenery and rich cultural heritage. Based on Zhejiang Training School of TCM, founded in 1953, Zhejiang College of TCM was officially established in 1959 and relocated at the present place in 2000. In February 2006, it was renamed as Zhejiang Chinese Medical University (ZJCMU).
Since the school has established, the faculty has kept the school motto “Seek the Origin at High Aspiration” in mind, which has advanced by leaps and bounds. In 1978, ZJCMU was the first batch of universities to recruit and train graduate students, and also the first TCM colleges to obtain the right of enrolling students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions. In 1998, ZJCMU was also the first one among the provincial universities to be authorized to grant doctoral degree. In 2001 and 2008, it was awarded “Excellence” on undergraduate education by the Ministry of Education. In 2003, it took the lead among provincial universities in establishing the TCM post-doctor station. In 2005, two specialties were listed as top priority specialties supported by Zhejiang Province. In 2006, the then Zhejiang College of TCM was renamed as Zhejiang Chinese Medical University. In 2007, it got the first key specialty at the State level among all the provincial universities. In 2008, the First Affiliated Hospital of ZJCMU was approved to be a state drug administration base for clinical trial and won another two top priority specialties at provincial level. In 2009, the university was authorized to grant doctoral degree in Clinical Medicine and He Ren, the former President of ZJCMU, was honored the title of “Master of Chinese Medicine” by the Chinese government.
ZJCMU has 15 colleges and 16 affiliated hospital 、3,600 teaching faculty and more than 10,000 full-time students. It offers 22 undergraduate majors, among which there are 5 unique specialties at state level and 8 at provincial level. It also possesses 2 post-doctor stations, 14 doctor-degree programmes, 40 master-degree programmes, 1 key specialty at state level, 9 at provincial level.
